Art Bra® Artists
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How much creative freedom do I have on the bra I submit?
A: It’s all yours! The only thing we ask is that you take into consideration the theme of Art Bra and create a bra that can be used in the show. The designers are always available to collaborate and share the current year’s vision.
Q: Am I responsible for the entire runway look or only creating the bra?
A: You are only responsible for the bra. In fact, we prefer that you only submit the bra as the design committee will be responsible for overall runway look.
Q: Does it matter what mediums I use to make the bra?
A: It does not matter. What does matter is that you create a piece of art that is wearable, sturdy enough to be worn for up to 8 hours at a time without crystals falling out, or it coming unglued due to movement and wear. Remember, these bras are being auctioned off for top dollar, your creation should reflect craftsmanship that commands top donations.
Q: What size bra should I make?
A: The best sizes can range from 34 B - 40 DDD. We also have flat models, so we always welcome creative bras (vests/corsets) they can wear.
Q: What if I cannot make the submission deadline?
A: If you are close to completing the bra but require an extension, please reach out to discuss with the design team.
Q: After I turn in my bra, can I volunteer to help with the runway collections?
A: Yes. We are always looking for experienced seamstresses and anyone who can help create headpieces, armor, jewelry, masks, etc.
Q: Am I required to submit a design concept or sketch for my bra?
A: Yes. A concept should be submitted as well as a list of materials you will be using to create the bra.
Q: What happens to my bra if it is not selected?
A: All Art Bras that are NOT chosen for the show may be picked up after Art Bra 2025 on a date determined by BCRC. Bras not picked up on the designated date remain BCRC property and are subject to use by BCRC in any manner deemed fit.
Q: Can I design a bra for a specific model?
A: No.
Q: Will I be able to meet the model who will be wearing my bra?
A: This will have to be mutually agreed upon by both the model and the artist. We cannot guarantee artists and models will have the opportunity to meet before the show.
Q: I’m having a creative block. Is there a link to past bras for inspiration?
A: Check out our photo gallery from previous years: PHOTO GALLERY - Art Bra Austin (bcrc.org)
Q: Are there particular bra types that are preferred?
A: Yes, back closures with adjustable back and shoulder straps. Corsets that have the ability to be laced up for different sizes. Avoid front closures or bras that don't adjust.
Q: Is my bra donation tax deductible?
A:Yes, you will need to fill out an in-kind donation form. You’ll receive a copy of it for tax purposes. In-Kind Donation Form - Breast Cancer Resource Center of Texas (bcrc.org)
Q: How will my bra donation be credited/promoted on social media platforms or other outlets?
A: All selected bras will be professionally photographed for promotion of the event. We will not directly promote one bra over another in event promotion.
Q: What can I expect if my bra is selected to be a live auction bra?
A: Live Auction Artists receive 1 complimentary ticket to Art Bra ($300 value).
Q: What does the committee look for in a live auction bra?
A: First and foremost, quality! Ask yourself, does my bra look like a $10,000 bra? Does it fit in the overall theme of Art Bra? Is it wearable art, meaning is this a bra that someone could wear to the Opera, holiday party, New Year’s Eve or display as art in their home.
Q: Can I make more than one bra?
A: Yes, however we prefer you take your time and submit one high quality, well-constructed bra.
Q: Do I have to be 18 or over to participate?
A: No. We have high school students who have created bras for Art Bra. We highly encourage giving students the opportunity to be part of something so meaningful as Art Bra
Q: Where do I drop my bra off?
A: BCRC headquarters
Q: How many artists can contribute to one bra?
A: There is no limit to how many people can collaborate on one bra. However, it has been our experience that small collaboration teams create high quality designs.
Q: Will I receive any updates on my bra once it is submitted?
A: You will be notified if your bra has been selected. After that, you may purchase a ticket to Art Bra to see the final look. Once bras are selected, full looks are not revealed to the public until the day of the show.
Q: Will my bra be modified at any time?
A: The design team tries to keep the integrity of the bra as it was created. However, from time to time the design team can make modifications to the bras to best fit into the overall concept of the design.
